Article body
Club Brugge KV clinched the Belgian First Division title with a 1-1 draw at home to K. Sint Truidense VV.
Dominant season
Brugge had led the table for the vast majority of the season, and began against Sint-Truiden knowing that a draw would be enough to guarantee the title following the announcement that KFC Lommelse SK would not play any of their last four games.
Bright start
Brugge began brightly, and came close to taking the lead in the early stages, as Sandy Martens hit the post, but on 25 minutes it was 1-0 when Gaëtan Englebert finished off a fine passing move. Despite an equaliser from Désiré Mbonbucya five minutes from time, Brugge held on for the all-important point.
Resounding victory
RSC Anderlecht consolidated in second place with a comfortable 4-0 win at home to KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen. Nenad Jestrovic opened the scoring for the home side in the first minute, and Glen Deboeck made it 2-0 on the half-hour, before Jestrovic scored his second three minutes into the second half and Aruna Dindane rounded off the win nine minutes from time.
Hopes hit
Fourth-placed K. Lierse SK's hopes of a UEFA Cup place were all but ended by a 5-2 defeat at KRC Genk desite taking the lead through Arouna Kone. Goals from Josip Skoko, two from Kevin Vandenbergh, Koen Daerden and Moumouni Dagano put Genk in complete control, before Adolph Doua scored a last-minute consolation for the away side.
First-half fightback
KAA Gent recovered from two goals down at home to KVC Westerlo, who were 2-0 ahead in side 12 minutes thank to strikes from Toni Brogno and Jef Delen. However, the home side quickly rallied and were in front before half-time, with Jacky Peeters, Patrick Dimbala and Steven Ribus all on target.
Single-goal victory
A goal from Tonci Martic proved enough for R. Excelsior Mouscron at home to RAA Louviéroise, while Ibrahim Yattara, Tony Sergeant and Bernt Evens were all on target for R. Antwerp FC at home to KSK Beveren, whose goal came from Gilles Yapi Yapo.
Standard stifled
R. Standard de Liège were held to a 0-0 draw at home by KV Mechelen, while third-placed Sporting Lokeren St-Niklaas-Waaslan were held to a goalless draw at R. AEC Mons late on Sunday.
