Article body
The competition for Austria's second UEFA Champions League place continued as second-placed Grazer AK maintained their one-point advantage over SV Austria Salzburg after a thrilling 3-3 draw.
Two-goal leads
GAK seemed to be on course for three vital points as they twice led by two goals, but second-half strikes from Dominic Hassler and Thomas Eder gave the visitors a vital point which ensured at least a UEFA Cup place for next season.
Late fightback
Two goals in eight first-half minutes from Mario Bazina and Benedict Akwuegu put GAK in control and, although Roland Kirchler pulled a goal back a minute before half-time, Akwuegu's second seemed to have sealed the win before Salzburg's revival in the final 20 minutes.
Champions held
Austrian Bundesliga champions FK Austria Wien were held to a goalless draw at SV Pasching, while SK Rapid Wien moved into fifth place despite falling behind to a Stanko Bubalo goal at home to FC Kärnten as strikes from Mario Prisc and a late Thomas Sobotzik penalty turned the match on its head.
Crucial victory
At the bottom end of the table, VfB Admira Wacker Mödling secured their Bundesliga status with a 2-1 win against SK Sturm Graz, with goals from Kliton Bogzo and Tomasz Iwan putting the home side in control before Klaus Salmutter scored a late consolation for the away side.
Bregenz stay bottom
Schwarz-Weiss Bregenz remained bottom despite a 2-0 win against the side immediately above them, SV Ried. The final round of matches will be played on Thursday.
