Article body
Grazer AK pipped SV Austria Salzburg to Austria's second UEFA Champions League qualifying place and SV Ried were relegated on the Bundesliga's 36th and final round.
European hopes
Although FK Austria Wien had long been crowned champions, there was still much to play for today at both ends of the table. GAK knew they would be in the draw for the Champions League's second qualifying round if they beat FC Kärnten away, irrespective of the result at the Casino stadium where Salzburg were taking on SV Pasching.
Naumoski wins it
GAK took the lead at the Wörthersee in the 41st minute through Nikola Milinkovic, but were pegged back when Kärnten - who have qualified for the UEFA Cup by virtue of progressing to Sunday's Austrian Cup final, where they will meet Austria - drew level through Stanko Bubalo. GAK were not to be denied, though, and clinched second place with ten minutes remaining when Ilco Naumoski scored.
UEFA Cup place
Salzburg must content themselves with a place in UEFA Cup qualifying despite beating Pasching 3-0 at home. Dominic Hassler opened the scoring in the eighth minute, a tally which was added to five minutes after the break when Heiko Laessig scored. Alexander Schriebl added the final goal a minute from time.
Shock win
Schwarz-Weiss Bregenz pulled off the shock of the day by defeating the champions 2-0 in the capital to condemn Ried, who were beaten 3-0 by VfB Admira Wacker Mödling, to relegation. Olivier Nzuzi Niati Polo and Laszlo Klausz struck either side of half-time for Bregenz, who ended up on 39 points - one more than Ried.
Ried relegated
Ried would have avoided the drop had they beaten Admira, but Kliton Bozgo scored twice and Alexander Ziervogel once to enable the visitors to record maximum points which saw them leapfrog Kärnten into seventh place. SK Rapid Wien beat SK Sturm Graz 1-0 away, Rene Wagner on target in the 62nd minute, in the day's other game.
