Article body
Olympiakos Piraeus FC moved top of the Alpha Ethniki with a comfortable 3-0 win at home to previous leaders Panathinaikos FC.
Narrow advantage
The victory moved Olympiakos level with their opponents on 67 points, although they are ahead by virtue of a superior head-to-head record. With just one match left to play, a victory against Xanthi FC next week will guarantee Olympiakos the title, while Panathinaikos must better the leaders' result at home to Akratitos FC.
Perfect start
The home side began brightly, and took the lead three minutes into the first half as Predrag Djordjevic's free-kick was headed into the net by Giovanni. The home side doubled their advantage 12 minutes later, as Stylianos Giannakopoulos capitalized on a series of defensive mistakes to shoot powerfully past goalkeeper Antonis Nikopolidis.
Decisive third
The Panathinaikos goalkeeper produced a number of impressive saves throughout the match, but was powerless to prevent the home side extending their lead two minutes into the second period, as Giannakopoulos headed in a Djordjevic cross.
Title challenge
AEK Athens FC kept alive their slim title hopes with a 2-0 victory at already-relegated Panahaiki GC, taking the lead on the hour with a powerful shot from Kostantinos Katsouranis before Dimitrios Nalitzis sealed the win with an angled effort three minutes from time.
UEFA Cup qualification
Panionos GS sealed a place in next season's UEFA Cup with a 2-0 win at home to Proodeftiki FC, thanks to two goals early in the second half from Vaghelis Mantzios and Elias Ioannou. FC PAOK Thessaloniki will also play in the same competition, as two goals from Pantelis Kafes and one from Yiasoumis Yiasoumi helped secure a 3-2 win at Egaleo FC, whose goals came from Giorgos Fotakis and Lefteris Velentzas.
Important win
At the bottom, Akratitos secured an important 3-0 win at home to PAS Giannina FC, who had Dimitar Telkinski dismissed nine minutes into the second half, before goals from Nikos Iordanidis, Tomas Razanauskas and Giorgos Barkoglou sealed the win.
Spectacular winner
Iraklis FC recovered from a goal down to win 2-1 at home to Kallithea GS, with Marcin Mieciel scoring the winning goal with a spectacular overhead kick in the 89th minute, while Leonidas Kadadais scored one and won a penalty, converted by Nikoloas Papadopoulos, in Aris Thessaloniki FC's 2-0 win against Ionikos FC, with both goals coming in the final seven minutes. OFI Crete FC were 2-0 winners at home to Xanthi.
