Late despair
In Monday night's game, Setúbal went two goals up in the first 18 minutes through Luís Jorginho and Albert Ze Meyong but were ultimately undone by a José Barroso double in the last eight minutes. Barroso, on as a substitute, first scored from the penalty sport, before condemning Setúbal to the drop with an equaliser three minutes from time.
Stars rested
There were no such problems for champions FC Porto, who warmed up for Wednesday's UEFA Cup final with a 3-2 success against Varzim SC. Despite resting several key players, Edgaras Jankauskas, Capucho and Paulinho Santos all found the net in the first half although a second-half double from José António gave the scoreline some respectability.
Two draws
Elsewhere, SL Benfica, who secured a UEFA Champions League place in the previous round, played out a 1-1 draw at home against Boavista FC. Tomislav Sokota's equaliser earned Benfica a draw after Pedro Santos had put the away side in front. Third-placed Sporting Clube de Portugal also drew 1-1 against CD Nacional. A late goal from Adriano cancelled out an earlier effort from Ricardo Quaresma.
Happy despite defeat
A late goal from Alan meant Vitória Guimarães went down 1-0 at CS Marítimo, however Guimarães look almost certain to clinch fourth place after nearest rivals Gil Vicente FC lost 5-0 against SC Beira-Mar, with a Ricardo Sousa double standing out. With two matches left, Guimarães have a six-point advantage.
Santa Clara boosted
As well as being boosted by Setúbal's demise, CD Santa Clara snatched three vital points with a 2-0 home win against Moreirense FC, after goals from Pedro Henriques and Ceará. Santa Clara are five points ahead of Beira-Mar and Associação Académica de Coimbra, who occupy the two remaining relegation places. The latter side drew 2-2 with FC Paços de Ferreira. André and Leonardo found the net for the home team, while Serginho and Manuel José scored for Paços. Finally, UD Leiria lost 4-1 at home against CF Belenenses.
