FC Schalke 04 have signed Georgian international midfielder Levan Kobiashvili on a three-year contract.

Summer move
Midfield player Kobiashvili has signed a three-year contract with the club lying sixth in the Bundesliga, only three points off a UEFA Champions League place. The 25-year-old will move in the summer, first concentrating on his side's promotion bid.

Deal agreed
Kobiashvili told uefa.com: "After the game with RW Oberhausen I agreed the terms and conditions of a three-year deal with Schalke. I think this will help me go forward, but it doesn't mean that I won't carry on with Freiburg's fight for promotion.

Problems solved
"After the winter break we had a few problems at Freiburg but we quickly solved them and I am sure we will manage to get back into the Bundesliga," added Kobiashvili. Freiburg are in second place in the 2. Bundesliga. Kobiashvili, who previously played for FC Dinamo Tbilisi and FC Metalurgi Rustavi, has been capped 42 times by Georgia and scored in a 2-1 UEFA European Championship defeat by the Republic of Ireland last week.
