FC Utrecht will compete in next season's UEFA Cup after advancing to the Dutch Cup final with a 2-1 victory against league leaders PSV Eindhoven.

June final
Utrecht, who are over €20m in debt, will meet the winner of Wednesday's semi-final meeting of Feyenoord or AFC Ajax in the final, to be played on 1 June in Rotterdam. With both those sides already assured of European football next season, Utrecht will claim the place in the first round of the UEFA Cup which victory in this competition guarantees.

Headed opener
Seventh in the Eredivisie, 33 points behind PSV, Utrecht outplayed their opponents from the start and were rewarded with the opening goal in the 16th minute when Dave van den Bergh beat goalkeeper Ronald Waterreus to Pascal Bosschaart's teasing free-kick. PSV were fortunate not to fall further behind as Utrecht wasted three fine chances to extend their advantage before half-time.

Tanghe makes it two
However, they did just that 12 minutes into the second half when Belgian Stefan Tanghe made it 2-0. PSV were not behind for long, though, Mateja Kezman reducing arrears within four minutes, but they were unable to secure the goal which would have forced extra time. Utrecht also reached last season's final, where they lost 3-2 on a 'golden goal' to Ajax.
