Metgod on the up at Alkmaar

AZ Alkmaar have promoted Edward Metgod to become assistant coach at the Eredivisie club.

Metgod, whose brother John holds the same post at Feyenoord, will assume his new duties from next season. The former Haarlem FC and Sparta Rotterdam shotstopper will continue to train the goalkeepers at Alkmaar.

Three-year deal
He has signed a three-year contract to assist Co Adriaanse, who has guided the team to ninth in the table this season. Alkmaar, who have an outside chance of winning a UEFA Cup place, are next in action on Saturday when they travel to RBC Roosendaal.
