RKC Waalwijk have been saved from bankruptcy by their town council, which has given the club a €2.5m loan.
Strict conditions
RKC will have to abide by the strict conditions of the loan, chiefly that they will need to have all future expenses approved by the council. "Now we can go on", said RKC chairman Jan Snoeren said. "Football-wise we already are going strong, but after this decision we now also have a financial future again.
Aiming for UEFA Cup
"This Friday against Willem II we can feel free again - and try to get three points for European football next season." RKC are currently fourth in the Eredivisie, which would mean a UEFA Cup place next season.
Stadium sale
It is not the first time the club have been saved by Waalwijk's town council. Three years ago it bought the club's Mandemakers stadium to give them some financial breathing space. RKC cite the slump in the transfer market as the reason for their shortfall of €4.6m.
