Austria round-up: Title joy for Austria

FK Austria Wien were crowned Austrian champions for the 22nd time after an away win at Grazer AK.

FK Austria Wien are the new Austrian Bundesliga champions following a 2-1 away victory at the only side that could still have denied them, Grazer AK.

Title No22
GAK gave themselves hope of a victory that would have kept their mathematical chances of catching Austria alive when René Aufhauser put them ahead a minute before half-time. But Austria, needing only a draw, equalised with 21 minutes to go through Sigurd Rushfeldt, and Vladimír Janočko's winner three minutes later secured their 22nd championship – and their first for a decade.

Daum delighted
Delighted Austria coach Christoph Daum said: "I am very glad - every title is something special." While GAK coach Walter Schachner, who was sacked as Austria coach last autumn, congratulated his former club. "Austria have deserved the title since they produced excellent performances over the whole season," Schachner said. "I have contributed to this by forming a good basis."

Pasching miss chance
SV Pasching missed their chance to move into the second UEFA Champions League qualifying place as they lost 3-2 against SK Sturm Graz. Mario Haas scored twice in the opening 37 minutes to give Sturm a 2-0 half-time advantage, and although Helmut Glieder pulled one back early in the second period, Charles Amoah sealed the points 18 minutes from time. Glieder did score again from the penalty spot two minutes later but the home side could not level.

Salzburg held
Pasching are still a point behind Graz but one ahead of Sturm and SV Austria Salzburg, held 0-0 by lowly VfB Admira Wacker Mödling. Admira’s point keeps them three ahead of relegation rivals Schwarz-Weiss Bregenz, the bottom side drawing 1-1 with SK Rapid Wien. FC Kärnten overcame SV Reid 4-1 to move up to sixth.
