Genk turn to Theunis

Former KFC Winterslag player Paul Theunis is the new technical committee chairman at KRC Genk.

Former KFC Winterslag player Paul Theunis is the new technical committee chairman at KRC Genk.

Raes resignation
The 51-year-old, who is currently the commercial manager at a local construction company, has taken over from technical director Robert Raes who resigned last week after a disappointing season for the club in the Belgian first division.

Dual role
Theunis will combine his day job with working unpaid on Genk's technical committee. "That job will remain my main work, but I think a combination with the work at Genk is possible," he said. "I am really looking forward to starting as soon as possible."

Familiar face
The new technical committee chairman will be familiar to many supporters at the club because of his playing career with Winterslag - one of the clubs who merged together to form Genk. He was also coach of Genk briefly, leading the club to 14th place in the table in the 1990/91 season.
