Article body
1. FC Kaiserslautern shrugged aside their financial worries to move into the final of the German Cup for the seventh time with a 3-0 win against SV Werder Bremen in tonight's semi-final tie.
Klose on target
Brazilian midfield player Cássio Lincoln opened the scoring with a header after just eight minutes to put the two-time cup winners on their way. Germany's FIFA World Cup hero Miroslav Klose doubled the lead eight minutes after the interval.
Timm goal
Kaiserslautern's Greek midfield player Dimitrios Grammozis was sent off in the 64th minute but Eric Gerets' side continued to enjoy the better of the play and added a third goal in the 80th minute through substitute Christian Timm after a swift counterattack.
Huge boost
The result is a huge boost to Kaiserslautern who recently announced that they are selling their stadium in a bid to ease the financial crisis that has engulfed the club. The four-time German champions are seeking to avoid bankruptcy and relegation and have debts estimated at €30m.
Wednesday semi-final
"We controlled the game for 90 minutes," said Kaiserslautern coach Gerets after the match. "I liked what I saw. It was a well-deserved victory." Gerets' side will discover who their opponents will be in the 31 May final after Wednesday's semi-final between FC Bayern München and Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
