Timmy Simons has signed a new deal with Club Brugge KV that will keep him at the club until 2007/08.

Timmy Simons has signed a new contract with Club Brugge KV that will keep him at the Jan Breydel stadium until the end of the 2007/08 season, the club have announced.

Lucrative contract
The club said that Simons's new contract was: "the biggest contract in the history of the club." Simons becomes the latest player to sign a new deal with the Belgian First Division leaders. Midfield player Gaëtan Englebert signed a contract extension several weeks ago, and Peter van der Heyden is expected to be given a new deal this week.

'The best solution'
Simons joined Brugge at the start of the 2000/01 season, and quickly became one of the club's most important players. "To keep him is the best solution for Brugge," said Aimé Anthuenis, coach of the Belgium national team. "You can always replace someone but it takes time, money and luck. Simons is important for a team because he can play in two positions [midfield and defence]. Psychologically he is very strong, which is good for a coach because tactically he is so sound as well."
