Aris march on to semis

Members

Ethnikos Asteras FC beat FC PAOK Thessaloniki 1-0 in their quarter final match but crashed out 3-2 on aggregate.

Aris Thessaloniki FC have joined AEK Athens FC, FC PAOK Thessaloniki and Egaleo FC in the semi-finals of the Greek Cup. Despite losing their quarter-final second-leg tie 1-0 to Ethnikos
Asteras FC tonight they progressed thanks to their 3-1 first-leg victory. The semi-finals will now be contested by a pair of teams from Athens and a pair from Thessaloniki.

Hasty shot
Ethnikos Asteras started brightly, playing some lively football from the kick-off and creating a handful of chances. However, Aris soon gained control of midfield, and, on 32 minutes, Leonidas Kapantais struck a post. Two minutes later, the same player found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper only to send his hasty shot wide of the post.

Luka strike
Ethnikos Asteras hit back after the break however, and took the lead on 53 minutes, as Lukas Luka scored directly from a free-kick. The second division side then desperately struggled to grab the second goal that would have sent them into the semi-finals, but Aris's experience told. The draw for the semi-finals will be announced on Thursday, as will the dates of the two fixtures.
