Knee problem
Doctors hope to clear up a cartilage problem in the player's right knee as well as learning the extent of a meniscus injury which has troubled Denilson all season. The 25-year-old forward faces a minimum month and a half on the sidelines.
Medical opinion
Club doctor Santiago Pérez Hidalgo said: "We tried to avoid surgery but that's not possible. He had an operation on his meniscus last summer but is still having problems and it's getting worse. If everything goes well, he will miss the next month and a half but it could be more."
Brazilian blow
Denilson played as a substitute in Sunday's 0-0 draw at Málaga CF which left Betis in eighth place in the Primera División. Meanwhile, Denilson's compatriot, midfield player Marcos Assunçao, is receiving treatment for an ankle injury and could miss Betis's next league game against Valencia CF on 6 April.
