Friday, February 28, 2003
Article summary
The Macedonian Football Federation has agreed to let the top-flight clubs run the Prva Liga.
Article body
F.Y.R. Macedonia's Prva Liga will officially come under the control of the Union of Top Division Clubs after the Macedonian Football Federation (FFM) ratified the decision.
Complete control
The new body will have complete control to appoint match and disciplinary delegates for league games and take over the disciplinary watchdog's role in the top flight when the 2002/03 season resumes at the beginning of March.
Doubts raised
Doubts were originally raised over the validity of the new system, with the FFM assembly opposing the move while six of the 12 Prva Liga clubs boycotted the proposal to appoint commisars. However, a solution was reached with the establishment of four three-man commissions - each to look at different issues, such as refereeing, transfers and TV rights- giving each club a voice on the board.
First president
The new union's first president, Dimitar Ciev, president of FK Sloga Jugomagnat, will serve an 18-month term. Ramadan Topojani was appointed general secretary and Slavko Jovcev elected as technical secretary.
