Yugoslavian club FK Javor Ivanjica have signed three Zimbabwean players.
Out of Africa
Midfield duo Mark Tomwanyeri and Carlo Leonard, both 23, and 22-year-old forward Anike Makunike have all agreed terms after impressing during training sessions with the Prva Savezna Liga side last month. They will become the first players from the African country to play in Yugoslavia.
Coach happy
All three are former Zimbabwean Under-21 internationals. "Physically they are superior to our players," said coach Slavko Vojicic. "They are hard working and disciplined. All three are very close to being selected in the starting eleven. I will decide after the end of the preparations. Their main task will be to help us improve our efficiency."
Points needed
The trio are with Javor at a winter training camp in Slovenia. They are not the first African players at Javor, as the club already had Nigerian pair Ifeani Igbodo and Obele Onuebuci in their ranks. Javor are 14th in the 18-team table and will hope the new signings can see them make headway in the second half of the season, which restarts on 22 February.
