Internazionale FC forward Alvaro Recoba has received a three-match ban from UEFA club competition matches following his sending-off against FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
Stamp on Puyol
The Uruguayan international was dismissed ten minutes from the end of Inter's 3-0 defeat at the Camp Nou after appearing to stamp on Barcelona defender Carlos Puyol. Swedish referee Anders Frisk showed Recoba a straight red card for the offence.
Can appeal
The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body took its decision after assessing the referee's and match delegate's reports and viewing video evidence of the incident, and the player will now miss the remainder of Inter's second group stage programme, starting with next Wednesday's return match at home to Group C leaders Barcelona. Recoba has until midnight on Monday, 24 February, to appeal against the decision.
