The 23-year-old Servette FC striker should sign the deal today after completing a medical. Frei, who has 14 caps for his country, will hope to make his debut next Wednesday in a league match against FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.
Halilhodžić influence
Frei said his decision to move to France was due to Rennes coach Vahid Halilhodžić. "He mostly influenced my decision," he said. "I felt in the discussions that he wanted me. Also Halilhodžić is a former striker -so he knows how you feel when the goals stop coming."
Looking forward
Frei is highly mobile, good in the air and difficult to defend against. Prior to joining Servette, where he has already scored 13 goals this season, he enjoyed spells with FC Basel, FC Thun and FC Luzern. "The most difficult decision has been taken," Frei added. "I am playing where I always wanted to play. For me life starts now in the big wide world. I am looking forward to that."
