Deportivo Alavés lost to second division Real Murcia in the Spanish Cup on Wednesday.

Carrero winner
Alavés' bid to reach the quarter-finals of the competition ended when they lost 2-1 at home to second division Real Murcia after a goalless first leg. David Karanka gave Murcia a 57th-minute lead before Rubén Navarro brought the hosts level. However, Josep Setvalls clinched a memorable win for the visitors with 14 minutes remaining.

Plenty of drama
The evening's two all-Primera División clashes saw plenty of drama. Raúl Molina scored the only goal of the tie as RC Recreativo de Huelva beat Real Betis Balompié 1-0 on the night to win by the same score on aggregate. Meanwhile, RCD Mallorca romped to a 4-1 win at Real Valladolid to ensure a 6-3 aggregate win. Forward Carlos scored a hat-trick within the first 28 minutes to seal a memorable away win for the Balearic side.

Moreno double
Elsewhere, Javi Moreno scored twice in Club Atlético de Madrid's 3-0 win against second division CD Xerez which sealed a 4-0 aggregate win while holders RC Deportivo La Coruña shrugged off the challenge of third division Alicante CF with a 4-1 win and 5-2 aggregate triumph. Roberto Acuña, José Amavisca, Diego Tristán and Alberto Luque all got on the scoresheet for Deportivo.

Osasuna ease through
Club Atlético Osasuna eased past third division Real Unión de Irún 5-1 on aggregate after drawing tonight's game 1-1 while Sevilla FC also had few problems in beating CD Numancia 2-1 to ensure a 5-2 aggregate triumph.

Madrid already in hat
Tonight's winners will be joined in the quarter-finals by Real Madrid CF, who booked their place in the last eight yesterday after a 7-5 aggregate win against second division Terrassa CF.
