Örgryte IS team captain Magnus Källander has finally completed his long-awaited move to Aris Thessaloniki FC.
Delayed deal
The midfield player has signed an 18-month contract with the Greek club having initially agreed a deal with Aris three weeks ago. However, administrative problems at Aris caused the transfer to be delayed until the final day of the transfer window.
'Eager to get going'
"It's been a long wait after I decided to move and right now I'm just eager to get going," said Källander, who will link up with fellow Swede and former BK Häcken player Njogu Demba Nyrén at his new club.
Brazilian replacement
Örgryte had already prepared themselves for losing Källander's services, signing midfielder Bosco on loan from Brazilian side Clube Atlético Mineiro a few weeks ago as part of an ongoing agreement between the two clubs.
Useful agreement
Afonso Alvés and Paulhinho Guarro both joined Örgryte midway through last season from Mineiro as part of the agreement, and both made a sufficient impact to be invited to spend a further season with the club.
Fond regards
Chairman Stefan Allbäck admitted that Örgryte would miss the long-serving Källander, but he was confident that the club could cope with his absence. "Magnus is an excellent player and he was our captain but we believe we've got players that are good enough to replace him," he said. "There is no need for us to look for a new player outside the club."
