Absence note
Rivas underwent surgery yesterday on the groin injury which forced him to miss the recent league matches against Villarreal CF and Real Racing Club Santander. Although the operation was a success, the 24-year-old now faces a four-week recovery period.
Denilson deal
Rivas's absence is a blow to Betis, who are fourth in the table after back-to-back wins against Villarreal and Racing. The centre-back has made 15 league appearances for Víctor Fernández's side this term. Better news for Betis, though, was Brazilian winger Denilson's decision to extend his contract with the club by two seasons, which could keep him in Seville until June 2010.
