Mareš joins Czech influx

Members

Pavel Mareš has become the third Czech player to join Russian club FC Zenit St. Peterburg.

Bohemians connection
The 26-year-old Czech Republic international joins the Russian Premier League side in a deal reported to be worth €700,000. Petržela moved for Mareš after Sparta completed the loan signing of Vladimír Labant from West Ham United FC. He had had an earlier bid for the player rejected. The two men worked together at CU Bohemians Praha.

'Our last reinforcement'
The left-sided Mareš, who has two international caps, follows countrymen Radek Šírl and Martin Horák to St. Petersburg. "Mareš is our last reinforcement from the Czech Republic," said Petržela, who could now turn his attention to Bohemians' Slovakian goalkeeper Kamil Contofalský.
