Iraklis FC have sacked coach Ivan Jovanovic after suffering their third straight league defeat.

Greek club Iraklis FC have sacked coach Ivan Jovanovic after suffering their third straight league defeat.

Final straw
The final straw for the Iraklis board was the 1-0 away defeat by Xanthi FC yesterday. It followed a 2-0 home loss at the hands of AEK Athens FC and a 2-0 reverse at Panathinaikos FC. Iraklis are in ninth place with 18 points, eight behind leaders Olympiakos Pireaus FC.

European exit
Jovanovic had been in trouble since the club's elimination from the UEFA Cup on 3 October at the hands of Cypriot club Anorthosis Famagusta FC. Iraklis let a 4-2 lead from the first leg slip as they were defeated 3-1 in Cyprus to go out on the away goals rule. To make matters worse, they were then knocked out of the Greek Cup at the second-round stage last month.

Christmas break
A replacement has not yet been named. Iraklis will hope to have a new man in place by the time they welcome Ionikos FC on 5 January.
