APOEL Nicosia FC have lost coach Egen Gerard after he left to take up the vacant position at Iraklis FC

Cypriot leaders APOEL Nicosia FC have lost their coach Egen Gerard after he left to take up the vacant position at Greek club Iraklis FC.

Jovanovic out
Dutch coach Gerard, who led APOEL to the league title last season, before embarking on an excellent run in the UEFA Champions League and then UEFA Cup this season, has accepted an offer from Iraklis after the sacking of Ivan Jovanovic.

Late-night talks
After a meeting with Iraklis chairman Evangelos Mitilneos on Monday night, Gerard agreed to return to Greece. The coach, who was formerly assistant coach to Toni Savevski at AEK Athens FC, informed APOEL chairman Prodromos Petrides and he agreed to let him leave.

Just ahead
Gerard joined APOEL early in the 2001/02 season, after replacing Mike Walker. APOEL are one point clear of Omonia FC at the top of the domestic table.
