Venables boost
The victory ended a six-game winless run for the Yorkshire club, who moved five points clear of the relegation places with this result and eased the pressure on manager Terry Venables.
Double fillip
Leeds had gone ahead at the Reebok stadium through Mills's fine strike on 12 minutes, and seemed set for the three points when Robbie Fowler doubled the advantage from close range shortly after.
Robinson to the rescue
However, it took an expert save from visiting goalkeeper Paul Robinson to prevent Bolton captain Youri Djorkaeff halving the deficit from the penalty spot.
Wilcox clinches it
Robinson also denied Stig Tøfting with a superb tip-over in the second half, before Jason Wilcox made sure of an away success with a shot from 25 metres. While Leeds climbed into 16th place, Bolton remained second from bottom of the table.
