Article body
Lengthy meeting
Barça, who have the right of appeal, learned of the decision after a lengthy meeting which stretched into the early hours of this morning. The match was held up for close to 15 minutes after Luis Figo, playing his second match in the Catalan capital following his transfer to Madrid in 2000, was subjected to a hail of missiles from home fans.
No one injured
Items thrown towards Figo included plastic bottles, some containing liquid, one glass bottle and gold balls. No one was injured by anything thrown from the crowd, the referee noted in his match report. The game finished 0-0.
Gaspart action
Barcelona spokesman Fernando Sequeira confirmed that the RFEF had also decided to take disciplinary action against the club's president, Joan Gaspart, after he accused Figo of provoking the fans by slowly clearing away bottles from around the corner flag as he prepared to take his kick. An investigation into those comments has been launched.
