NK Olimpjia came out on top against NK Gorica in a 4-3 thriller this weekend to remain at the summit of the Slovenian First League.
Procession on cards
Veteran Croatian international Robert Prosinecki ensured Olimpija made the start they wanted when he struck inside ten minutes and when Blaz Puc doubled the lead ten minutes later it looked like it was going to be a procession.
Ekmedzic double
Gorica, however, hit back through Ismet Ekmedzic but Tonci Zlogar then made it 3-1 for the home team. Nevertheless, there was still time for two more goals as Ekmedzic struck his second before Ehad Goca made sure of the three points for the leaders.
Koren decisive
Second-placed NK Publikum showed a marked improvement in their away form in a 1-0 defeat of NK Dravograd, Robert Koren hitting the winner on the cusp of half time.
Deficit overturned
Rudar Velenje grabbed the shock result of the weekend by overcoming third-placed NK Koper 2-1. The match was going to plan for the away side when Alfred Jermanis gave them the lead a minute before the interval. But second-half goals from Damjan Jesenicnik and Amel Mujakovic overturned the deficit for the relegation-threatened home team.
Three wins
Elsewhere, NK Maribor beat Primorje 2-0 with goals from Damir Pekic and Dejan Djuranovic, while NK Ljubljana defeated NK Korotan by the same result and NK Mura went down 3-0 to NK Smartno.
