Article body
FC Basel prepared for their UEFA Champions League encounter with Manchester United FC next week in the best possible fashion by beating FC Thun 3-0 in the Swiss Nationalliga A.
Basel boost
Basel’s result was just the boost they needed after being held to a 1-1 draw by FC Luzern last week, Hakan Yakin giving Christian Gross’ side the lead on nine minutes before two goals at the start of the second half - from Julio Hernán Rossi and Christian Giménez – wrapped it up.
Grasshoppers top
Grasshopper-Club, however, reclaimed top spot after defeating SR Delémont 3-0, Antonio Barijho opening the scoring on six minutes, Mihai Tararache doubling the lead four minutes before half-time and Barijho hitting the third late on.
Servette rally
Servette FC, meanwhile, moved away from the danger zone with a 3-0 defeat of FC Aarau after goals from Goran Obradovic and two from Swiss international Alexander Frei.
Play-offs
FC Wil 1900 defeated Luzern 2-1 and FC St.Gallen produced the same result against BSC Young Boys, while Neuchâtel Xamax FC came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against FC Zürich. SR Delémont, FC St. Gallen and FC Aarau – have already been consigned to relegation-promotion play-offs.
