'Coach responsible'
The Yugoslavian side's 1-1 draw against FK Radnicki Niš last night was the final straw for Varga, who said: "My decision to resign is irreversible. I tried to inject a winning spirit into the team, but I failed to do so. The players can never be responsible for failure, but the coach is. I took the job with a lot of ambition, now I am disappointed."

Belief in potential
Varga has been succeeded by former Yugoslavian international Djurovski who has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with the Belgrade club. "I know I am coming at a bad moment, but I would not have taken over Rad if I did not believe in the team's potential," the new coach said. "This team has everything bar self-confidence and raising it will be my main task."

Former Radnicki coach
The 41-year-old Djurovski made a record 584 appearances in the FK Crvena Zvezda midfield in the 1980s, before he moved to Swiss side Servette FC in 1990. After finishing his playing career in 1995 he stayed on as assistant coach at Servette until 1999. Coming back to Belgrade, Djurovski was assistant to current Crvena Zvezda coach Zoran Filipovic until the end of last season when he took sole charge of FK Radnicki Obrenovac.

Barred from the sidelines
He was sacked by Radnicki three weeks' ago but is keen to prove his worth at Rad. However, Yugoslav Football Association rules forbid a coach to sit on the bench for different clubs in any half a season so Djurovski's assistant, Mile Milanovic, will manage from the sidelines until spring 2003.
