SC Rotor Volgograd midfield player Sergey Rashevskiy has suffered two gunshot wounds in a shooting that left one man dead.

Stable condition
The 22-year-old was injured while leaving the Piranha nightclub at a busy riverside leisure district in Volgograd. Rashevskiy was hit once in the hand and once in the back. He was taken to hospital at 6am on Sunday morning and his condition was said to be stable.

Inquiry launched
An investigation has been launched into what happened, although it is believed Rashevskiy was an accidental victim. Security was already tight in the city before Russia's EURO 2004™ home match against Albania on Wednesday.
