Klose call in Kaiserslautern crisis

1. FC Kaiserslautern could sell the transfer rights for Miroslav Klose to ease their debts.

Financial losses
Acting chairman Rene C Jaeggi said Kaiserslautern could go bust without the move, with the club expecting to announce €9.4m losses for the financial year ending June.

'Short of cash'
"We urgently need €5m and we need it in the next few weeks, otherwise we will be short of cash," Jaeggi told a press conference on Tuesday.

Unnamed investors
Kaiserslautern could receive €5m from unnamed investors for the transfer rights for Klose, a target of several top European clubs following his goalscoring exploits at the summer's FIFA World Cup finals.

'Klose informed'
"Klose and his adviser have been informed about this and they have no problems with it," Jaeggi said. Klose, 24, is contracted to the Red Devils until 2005 and has repeatedly stressed his commitment to the club.

TV cash crisis
Kaiserslautern's problems, said Jaeggi, came after the 1. Bundesliga's TV rights holder, KirchMedia, went insolvent and had to renegotiate its contract with the clubs. Also, the club had failed to qualify for the UEFA Cup and must spend millions to modernise their Fritz-Walter-Stadion, a venue for the 2006 World Cup.

Bottom of the Bundesliga
Kaiserslautern are bottom of the 1. Bundesliga with no wins from seven games. They sacked coach Andreas Brehme in August, replacing him with the Belgian Eric Gerets.
