Combined role
The 40-year-old has been relieved of his duties after what a club statement called "consultation between the club and Van Stee". Van Stee had been appointed to fill the posts of coach, technical director and chief scout. But the Alkmaar board decided the combined role was not working.
'No longer working'
"The combination of technical director, coach and chief scout no longer worked," the statement said. "The board could see no growth on the sporting or business sides of the club and that was unacceptable."
Alkmaar offer
Van Stee has yet to say whether he will accept an offer to stay at Alkmaar in another capacity. "I will let this news break, and then I will speak to the board to see what I can do for AZ." Assistant coach Martin Haar will take temporary charge of the first team.
