Dinamo in disarray as Moldovan quits

Ion Moldovan has left Romanian champions FC Dinamo Bucuresti after less than a month in charge.

Ion Moldovan stepped down as coach of FC Dinamo Bucuresti late last night after less than a month at the helm of the troubled club.

Short stay
Moldovan took charge of Dinamo on 13 August, replacing Cornel Dinu after the Romanian champions were beaten in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round and also lost the Romanian Super Cup. Under Moldovan, Dinamo have begun the Divizia A season by taking four points from their first three games, yet the coach left claiming there was "a bad atmosphere" in the dressing room.

'Bad atmosphere'
"The bad atmosphere which exists within the team and the hostility which I felt led me to this decision to quit," said Moldovan. "I consider that at this moment this is the best solution in order to preserve the necessary calm to achieve their goals for the season."

Marin could return
Florin Marin is reportedly in pole position to return as coach just 52 days after quitting the club. Marin lasted only 29 days at Dinamo following his appointment alongside Dinu at the start of July.  After Marin's departure, Dinu remained in sole charge for a further fortnight before Moldovan took over.

Support from president
Last week Dinamo suffered heavy losses in friendly games played in Spain, 5-2 against Real Madrid CF and 6-0 against Real Betis Balompié. A 1-1 draw with FCM Bacau at the weekend left them seventh in the early standings but club officials and Moldovan insisted he was going nowhere. Even after resigning, Moldovan, who turned 48 today, said in a statement: "[Dinamo] President Nicolae Badea always supported me."
