Portugal round-up: Sporting shocked by Paços

When the two sides met last season Paços were on the end of a 6-0 defeat. However, on this occasion they gained their revenge, taking the lead after 33 minutes when Mauro's cross picked out Carlos Carneiro, whose header beat a helpless Tiago.

Mauro runs riot
Three minutes later, Mauro scored himself with an excellent shot from Carlos Carneiro's cross and he added a third Paços goal ten minutes after half-time when he ran on to Júnior's slide-rule pass and chipped the ball past Tiago. Finally, in the last minute, left-back Zé Nando escaped down the left flank and crossed to the far post, where Mauro was on hand to tap the ball into the net and complete his hat-trick.

Benfica stay top
Despite Paços's stunning win the leadership of the division is still the joint property of SL Benfica and Vitória Guimarães. The former found it difficult to cope with newcomers Moreirense FC in an entertaining game but still ran out 3-2 winners. They were ahead after just two minutes thanks to Nuno Gomes's first goal in his second spell with the club.

Moreirense hit back
However, Moreirense hit back with Brazilian winger Demétrios deflecting an Armando cross into the net for an equaliser before an error from Benfica skipper João Manuel Pinto allowed Afonso Martins the space to cross for Armando whose bullet header gave the hosts a half-time lead.

Benfica response
Benfica responded well in the second half, largely thanks to the introduction of Miklos Fehér. The Hungarian international won a penalty in the 69th minute when he was brought down by João Duarte, who was sent off for a second bookable offence, and Simão duly converted the spot-kick to draw Benfica level. Fehér completed a fine comeback by heading the winner from a Richard Rocha cross.

Top of the table
Guimarães still top the table on goal difference after a 2-1 away success against Vitória Setúbal. Striker Romeu scored twice in the first half before a 67th-minute penalty from Brazilian Hugo Henrique reduced the arrears.

Porto come from behind
Elsewhere, FC Porto came from behind to beat Gil Vicente FC 3-1. The Barcelos team scored first, through an indirect free-kick from Nuno Amaro, but Porto equalised only five minutes later with a Maniche header.

No mistake
Maniche also made no mistake from the penalty spot in the 71st minute after Deco was tripped in the area. Russian international playmaker Dmitri Alenitchev then completed the scoring with a late effort from a Edgaras Jankauskas cross.

Boavista's first win
Boavista FC grabbed their first three points of the season against promoted Clube Académica de Coimbra with the only goal coming courtesy of Brazilian hitman Elpídeo Silva in the first minute.

Other games
The Madeira derby between CD Nacional and CS Marítimo ended in a goalless draw while CD Santa Clara beat CF Os Belenenses 3-1 with a double from striker João Pedro, who set up the third goal for team-mate Ceará. Congolese striker Yves Kibuey scored the only goal of UD Leiria's 1-0 home triumph over SC Beira-Mar while Varzim SC defeated SC Braga 2-0, thanks to second-half strikes from defender José António and Marcão.
