Article body
Club Atlético de Madrid have signed Spanish Under-21 international midfield player Jorge Larena from relegated UD Las Palmas for €4.3m and offically unveiled him at the Vicente Calderón stadium.
'Quality player'
"I am very happy about the signing of Jorge because Atlético need players of his quality," Atlético president Jesús Gil said on the club's website, adding that he expected the player to be presented as the club's tenth summer signing tomorrow.
'I've always admired Atlético'
The 20-year-old Jorge has signed a five-year deal. He made his debut for Las Palmas two years ago and appeared in 35 league matches last season, scoring seven goals. "I've always admired Atlético," Jorge said. "And Luis Aragonés is a coach from whom I will be able to learn a lot. This will help me to improve my skills."
Financial problems
Las Palmas, who were relegated from the Primera División last season, have been forced to offload a string of key players in the close season to help alleviate their financial problems. The deal for Jorge stipulates that Las Palmas will maintain 30 per cent of ownership of the player in the event of any future transfers.
Big spender
Atlético, who play FC Barcelona at the Camp Nou in the league on Sunday after two seasons outside the Spanish top flight, have been one of the biggest spending clubs this summer. They paid out close to €20m to bring striker Javi Moreno and Brazilian midfield player Emerson to the capital from Milan AC and RC Deportivo La Coruña respectively.
