FC Alania Vladikavkaz are hunting for a new coach after Vladimir Muntian resigned following the club's poor start to the Russian season.

Eight defeats
Alania have only recorded two wins while suffering eight defeats in their opening 12 matches and are second from bottom with just eight points. It was a poor opening after high pre-season hopes, prompting the Ukrainian to stand down.

'Rational decision'
"I've taken a rational decision in accordance with the failures that Alania have had in the Russian championship,'' Muntian said. "I regret that I couldn't do all I imagined in the end but it's impossible to create a good team in three months.''

No shortlist yet
Muntian took over Alania, who finished 13th last season, just before the start of the 2002 campaign. A new coach is expected to be announced over the next few days although the club have not confirmed any shortlisted candidates.
