Etienne Delangre has been named as the new coach of Belgian first division side R. Charleroi SC.

Scifo departure
The club confirmed that Delangre will replace former Belgium international Enzo Scifo who quit last week. Charleroi-born Scifo led a consortium which took over the struggling southern Belgian club shortly before they narrowly avoided relegation in the 1999/00 season.

Shares sold
However, he had mixed results with Charleroi finishing 13th in the 18-club first division last season. Scifo, who won 84 caps for Belgium, has also decided to sell all his shares in the club and relinquish his role as vice-president.

Eternal gratitude
"It is true I have no experience in First Division as coach" said Delangre. “But it is way to soon to know if it will work or not.  But one thing is sure - I will be grateful to the club president forever because he gave me a chance at the highest level to prove what I could achieve.

Team spirit
“All the good coaches had a chance to start in the top division, I have mine now and I know what the players expect from a coach in First division, and I know what to give them,” he added. “I want to show the Charleroi spectators nice attacking football and to create a nice atmosphere in my team like I was able to do in the lower divisions.  I like Senegal a lot in that respect".
