Article body
A week before the start of the new Ukrainian Premier League season, champions FC Shakhtar Donetsk have signed three players from South America.
Triple arrivals
The 22-year-old Iraty SC forward Brandão has signed a five-year contract after scoring 13 goals in domestic Brazilian football last season. Shakhtar have also landed the 28-year-old Uruguayan international full-back Damian Rodriguez from Club Nacional De Football, and Marcelo Sosa, 24, from Danubio FC.
Jancker refusal
All three players have already arrived in Germany where Shakhtar are preparing for the new season. However, the Donetsk club did fail in an attempt to bring in FC Bayern München and Germany striker Carsten Jancker, after the player declined their offer.
Arsenal first
The Ukrainian season starts on 7 July, with Shakhtar starting the defence of their title against FC Arsenal Kyiv.
