Aguirre set for Osasuna hotseat

Mexico coach Javier Aguirre is set to join Club Atlético Osasuna after the FIFA World Cup 2002.

The agreement between the Mexican and Osasuna chairman Patxi Izco was reached yesterday, a day after Mexico opened their World Cup campaign with a 1-0 defeat of Croatia to give themselves an excellent chance of reaching the knockout stages.

'Direct contact'
Izco is confident that the deal will not fall through, no matter how well the North American side fare at Korea/Japan. "I've been in direct contact with the Mexican national team coach, and we have already been talking about the squad for the new season," he said. "I can assure everyone that Aguirre will be our coach next season. As soon as the World Cup is over, he will sign a contract with us."
