Liverpool FC have completed the signing of Senegal striker El Hadji Diouf from RC Lens.

Liverpool FC confirmed today that they have signed Senegal striker El Hadji Diouf from French club RC Lens, although the fee for the €15m-rated African is yet to be revealed.

Long-admired talents
The 21-year-old African Footballer of the Year displayed talents long admired by Liverpool manager Gérard Houllier on a world stage when terrorising the French defence throughout Senegal's amazing 1-0 defeat of the FIFA World Cup favourites in Seoul yesterday.

'Wonderful news'
Ian Cotton, a spokesman for the FA Premiership club, said on Liverpool's official website: "We can confirm that El Hadji Diouf has now signed a five-year deal with Liverpool, which is wonderful news for everyone at the club. The Senegal striker will join up with his new team-mates when the squad report back for pre-season training in July."

'Best in the world'
Speaking in the Korean Republic, Diouf said yesterday: "I have signed for five years. It's definite. The next season, I'll be there. I am delighted to be joining Liverpool. I want to become one of the best players in the world and I'm sure that at Liverpool, with a coach like Gérard Houllier, I can do that."
