Article body
Joseph S. Blatter won the FIFA presidency for a second four-year term on Wednesday, defeating his only rival, the president of the African confederation CAF, Issa Hayatou of Cameroon, by 139 votes to 56.
First ballot
Mr Blatter, who was elected FIFA President to succeed João Havelange in 1998, won on the first ballot at the 53rd Ordinary FIFA Congress in Seoul, the Korean Republic. He gained the required two-thirds majority of votes from the FIFA member associations at the first attempt to seal victory.
Finance debate
The vote came at the end of an eight-hour FIFA Congress in Seoul, and was preceded by more debate into the world governing body's financial state - an issue which has been the subject of heated and intensive discussions among world football's leaders in the run-up to the election.
Budget passed
Although FIFA's latest budget was passed by the Congress with the provision that it should be annually examined, the controversial issue of FIFA's finances had little effect as far as Mr Blatter's re-election was concerned.
