Dramatic cup triumph for Újpest

Újpesti TE won the Hungarian Cup after beating Haladás VFC with a last-minute goal in extra time.

A last-minute goal in extra time was enough for Újpesti TE to win tonight's Hungarian Cup final 2-1 at the expense of Haladás VFC.

Early dominance
Haladás dominated the early exchanges at the ETO stadion with Lázár Szentes's team creating numerous chances. Újpest found their form, though, and Czech striker Robert Vagner opened the scoring with a strike from all of 30 metres which gave Haladás goalkeeper Tamás Takács no chance.

Halmosi equaliser
Péter Halmosi equalised in the 75th minute after Brazilian Leandro squared the ball to him from a quick free-kick. Although there were a number of further chances no team was able to find what would have been a decisive goal and the match went into extra time.

Eighth success
The first period finished goalless and with everyone in the 10,000 crowd anticipating a penalty shoot-out, Vagner scored his second goal of the match with virtually the last kick of the game. Croatian substitute Dejan Poljakovic crossed from the right-hand side to Vagner, who calmly finished from close range to give Újpest the trophy for the eighth time in their history.
