Scotland round-up: Celtic and Livingston take the plaudits

Members

Celtic FC signed off in style with a 1-0 victory over Aberdeen FC on Sunday.

Celtic FC confirmed their supremacy, while Livingston FC laid claim to the tag of Scotland's third force as the Scottish Premier League season ended today.

Mean defence
At Aberdeen FC's Pittodrie Stadium, a Shaun Maloney free-kick was enough to earn Martin O'Neill's champions a 1-0 win. Maloney's tenth goal of the season arrived after 71 minutes and took Celtic to 103 points for the season. Just as remarkable is the fact that Celtic have only conceded 18 goals in 38 league matches.

We are the champions
The Parkhead side are the undisputed champions, but the other story of the league season this year has been the form of newly promoted Livingston. Their fairytale campaign ended with a 3-2 win at Tynecastle against Heart of Midlothian FC.

Season finale
The win enabled Livingston to edge out Aberdeen in the battle for third place in the table and give their fans another reason to celebrate, having already confirmed qualification for next seasons UEFA Cup. Ricardo Fuller gave Hearts the lead after 51 minutes before Francisco Quino drew Livingston level.

Five-goal thriller
Lee Makel put Livingston into the lead and Barry Wilson netted a third goal for Jim Leishman's side. Steve Fulton's penalty in injury time put a more respectable look on the scoreline, but the plaudits were reserved for Livingston.

Spoils shared
Rangers FC finished the season as runners-up to Celtic and ended their campaign with a 1-1 draw at Dunfermline Athletic FC. Australian international defender Craig Moore scored in the 28th minute, but Steve Crawford equalised with just four minutes left to earn the Fife side their first point of the season against the Ibrox club.

Great fightback
Kilmarnock FC and Dundee United FC shared four goals and the spoils in an exciting clash at Rugby Park. Ally Mitchell and Chris Innes had the home side 2-0 up by the 47th minute, however United mounted a spirited fightback. Steven Thompson halved the deficit and Craig Easton's stunning volley earned his team a battling point.

Paying the penalty
James McFadden missed a penalty for Motherwell FC, but his team were still too strong for Dundee FC. Dirk Lehmann gave the Fir Park side a half-time lead and Stuart Elliot put Terry Butcher's team 2-0 ahead before Fabian Caballero got one back for Dundee from the penalty spot. McFadden's miss counted for little as Motherwell held on for the three points.

Townsley winner
Hibernian FC wrapped up all three points against Saint Johnstone FC thanks to a goal after 43 minutes from Derek Townsley.

European situation
Celtic now go forward to the UEFA Champions league and will be joined in European competition by Rangers, Livingston and Aberdeen who will take their places in the UEFA Cup.
