Article body
German champions BV Borussia Dortmund have signed Argentinian international Juan Ramon Fernández on a five-year contract.
Versatile performer
The UEFA Cup finalists paid Estudiantes de la Plata €1.7m for the 22-year-old midfield player. He usually plays on the left-hand side but has also featured on the right for the Argentinian club.
Second signing
Dortmund claim Fernández is one of the biggest talents in his homeland. He has made more than 90 matches for Estudiantes and has two caps for Argentina, although has missed out on the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals. Fernández is Dortmund's second new signing this summer, after goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller was snapped up from 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
Hertha busy
Fernández is not the only Argentinian player heading to the 1. Bundesliga for next season. Hertha BSC Berlin have agreed to pay €3.3m for the Rosario Central striker Luciano Figueroa. The highly-rated forward moves to Germany after playing just 19 matches for Rosario, scoring seven goals.
