Scotland round-up: Rangers on song

Members

Rangers FC geared up for next Saturday's Scottish Cup final with an easy win over Aberdeen FC.

McCann stakes claim
Winger Neil McCann opened the scoring on 41 minutes direct from a corner and staked his claim for a starting role at Hampden Park against arch-rivals Celtic FC with a fine display.

Rangers untroubled
Aberdeen - guaranteed a place in next season's UEFA Cup - rarely troubled Allan McGregor in the home goal as Alex McLeish's side strolled to victory. Ronald de Boer hit the post in the second half before captain Barry Ferguson put the result beyond doubt in the 81st minute after Tore Andre Flo's shot had cannoned off the woodwork.

Final boost for McLeish
Just as pleasing for McLeish was the return of key players Ferguson, Craig Moore and Shota Arveladze. All three should be able to face Celtic as the Light Blues chase a League Cup/Scottish Cup double.

Motherwell show mettle
Motherwell FC's players shrugged off the threat of redundancy by hammering Kilmarnock FC 4-1 at Rugby Park. On Wednesday, manager Eric Black and chief executive Pat Nevin resigned as the financially stricken club were put into interim administration. But under the eye of caretaker boss Terry Butcher the Fir Park side showed their mettle taking the lead through Derek Adams in the 21st minute.

Three goals in four minutes
Tommy Johnson equalised for Kilmarnock, but Motherwell responded with three goals in four minutes. James McFadden netted on 70 minutes before Stuart Elliot (72) and Stephen Pearson (74) gave the travelling fans something to cheer about.

All square at Easter Road
Hibernian FC and Dundee FC traded four goals at Easter Road. Derek Townsley scored for the second week in a row only for Fabian Caballero to draw Dundee level by the break. Scottish international Garry O'Connor thought he had secured the points with a 76th-minute strike, but substitute Steven Milne earned Ivano Bonetti's men a share a minute from time.

Drab draw
Dundee United FC and relegated Saint Johnstone FC drew 0-0 at Tannadice Park in an end-of-season fixture both will want to forget.

Tomorrow's action
While the race for the final UEFA Cup spot could be settled on Sunday if Livingston FC beat Dunfermline Athletic FC. Should Livingston slip up then Heart of Midlothian FC can take advantage by beating Celtic and taking the drama to the last day of the season.
