Slovenian international Milenko Acimovic set to join FA Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur FC.

Slovenian international Milenko Acimovic has signed a four-year contract with the English club Tottenham Hotspur FC.

Transfer fee to be announced
The 25-year-old FK Crvena Zvezda midfield player said the FA Premier League side would hold a press conference on Tuesday to announce his arrival and the transfer fee. Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle has monitored the progress of Acimovic, an attacking midfield player, for some time and was keen to recruit him ahead of next season.

Disappointing finale
In his last match for Zvezda after four-and-half years with the club, the former NK Olimpia Ljubljana player was sent off in the 66th minute against FK Hajduk Kula in a 1-1 draw, a result that ended Zvezda's chances of winning the Yugoslav title.

'Beautiful years'
Acimovic said: "I have spent the most beautiful years of my life in Zvezda. I have made my name there, winning all domestic titles. I am sorry Yugoslavian football is in such a bad shape and that Zvezda did not make it on the international scene. I am sorry my career in Belgrade ended with the red card."

'Very proud'
He added: "I am very proud to sign for such a club as Tottenham with such reputation and tradition. I have spoken with coach Glenn Hoddle several times in the past few months and we both knew we would establish a fine relationship because we think the same way."

Slovenia motivated
Commenting on Slovenia's 2002 FIFA World Cup finals preparations, Acimovic said: "The primary goal for Slovenia is to prove that we did not qualify for the World Cup finals by chance. We do not lack motivation, but we have to do even more to show that we are able to take any challenge."
