Everton FC have confirmed the appointment of David Moyes as their new manager on a four-year deal.

Everton FC have confirmed the appointment of David Moyes as their new manager on a four-year deal. The struggling FA Premiership club unveiled the 38-year-old Moyes as the replacement for Walter Smith at a press conference on Thursday evening.

'Personal terms agreed'
Everton spent a day and a half thrashing out a compensation deal with Moyes's former club, first division Preston North End FC. A statement on Everton's website said: "Personal terms have been agreed and the two clubs have reached agreement over a suitable compensation package." Preston revealed that Everton will pay them an initial €1.6m compensation with a further unspecified amount to follow if the club maintain their Premiership status.

Not an easy job

Relegation threat
Moyes will need to make an immediate impact if Everton, the top flight's second longest-serving club, are to avoid relegation. The Merseysiders are 16th in the table, level on 31 points with third-bottom Bolton Wanderers FC, having won just one of their last 13 league games.
