SC Bastia reached the final of the Coupe de France with a 1-0 extra-time win today.
Vairelles breaks through
Captain Tony Vairelles hit the target three minutes into the first period of extra time to finally break CS Sedan-Ardennes' resistance after a tense 90 minutes of football had failed to produce a goal. Vairelles latched on to a long ball from Michael Essien before lobbing Sedan keeper Patrick Régnault for the winner.
Sedan rue missed chances
The result was tough on Sedan, who twice came close to taking the lead through Pius N'Diefi in normal time but the Cameroon striker was thwarted on each occasion by the agility of Bastia keeper Ali Boumnijel.
The final countdown
Bastia will play either FC Lorient or Nîmes Olympique FC, who meet tomorrow, in the final at the Stade de France on 11 May.
