Free transfer
The 27-year old German was available on a free transfer and has agreed a two-year contract. Anfang played 40 1. Bundesliga games for Fortuna Düsseldorf and FC Schalke 04 from 1995 to 1998 before joining Tirol in 1998.

'I did not want to miss out'
In his three years at the club, he has won the Austrian Bundesliga twice and is closing in on a third title this season, with Tirol 17 points clear at the top. Anfang said: “I’ve had a great time here in Innsbruck. We won the league twice and I hope to be able to say goodbye this summer with a third consecutive title. But I was always hoping to be able to return to the German Bundesliga. Now I’ve been offered an opportunity and I did not want to miss out.”

Friendly face
Kaiserslautern's Slovenian international Aleksander Knavs, who played with Anfang at Tirol, was looking forward to his arrival. He said: “Markus is an excellent midfield player. He always works very hard and gives everything for his team."
